In June 2026, we started a programme of work to upgrade wastewater, water and roading infrastructure on Lincoln Road, between Wrights Road and Curletts Road.

This includes:

  • Replacing wastewater mains and property connections between Wrights Road and Curletts Road, and on a section of Sylvan Street and Domain Terrace.
  • Replacing water submains and installing water meters on Lincoln Road’s southeast side (Lyttelton Street – Hoon Hay Road), and replacing watermains at intersections with Domain Terrace and Sylvan Street.
  • Road replacement and widening.
  • Installing peak-time bus lanes in both directions between Annex Road and Wrights Road. Learn more about the bus lane work
  • Installing bus shelters and benches in new and current locations.
  • Installing a central median with landscaping.
  • Restricting right turns in and out of most side roads and properties on Lincoln Road, between Annex and Wrights Road.
  • Upgrading street lighting.
  • New fibre connections.
  • Undergrounding power services – this work will be carried out by Orion to properties between Torrens Road and Annex Road.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2027, combining transport and water improvements into one programme to reduce disruption and enable work to be completed as fast as possible.

Our contractor, Isaac Construction, is holding drop-in sessions throughout the project. These are an opportunity for people to come along, ask any questions and chat with the team about the work.

The next session will be held on Wednesday 9 September 2026, at The Waiting Room Cafe, 30 Lincoln Road. You can stop by anytime between 8am and 10am to see the team.

Work is progressing well along Lincoln Road, and the water upgrades on Domain Terrace are finishing this week.

Over the next few months, work will continue on the south side of Lincoln Road where crews will be installing new pipes and widening the road to make space for the new peak-hour bus lanes(external link).

Service upgrades along the south side of Lincoln Road are also progressing well. Streetlight installation is almost finished, and new underground power cables have been laid by Orion. The week starting Monday 24 August, Orion and their contractors will switch over the power supply to the underground cable. Read our latest newsletter for more details(external link).

Isaac Construction has been appointed as the contractor who will deliver this major upgrade. Work will start in June on Lincoln Road between Wrights Road and Annex Road, installing new peak-hour bus lanes and upgrades to water and wastewater services. Wastewater works will also be completed between Annex Road and Curletts Road.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2027, combining transport and water improvements into one programme to reduce disruption and enable work to be completed as fast as possible.

Now that our contractor is on board, detailed planning is underway to manage traffic during construction. We’re working closely with Isaac Construction to reduce disruption and help people get around safely. More information about traffic management will be shared once confirmed. Lincoln Road is a key route for commuters and businesses. These upgrades will improve safety, make public transport more reliable, and ensure water and wastewater services can continue to meet the needs of our growing communities.

Combining pipe replacement and transport projects in one package means we can reduce disruption, keep traffic flowing and get out of the way as quickly as possible.

Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the programme. We’re carefully planning our programme alongside our contractor to reduce disruption and keep traffic flowing.
