Processing, inspections and code compliance timeframes

The current statutory timeframes for processing applications for building consents and code compliance certificates and the average timeframe for inspections.

Vetting applications within:

  • Two working days.

Start processing a consent application within:

  • 13 working days for residential.
  • Five working days for commercial. 

August 2026 statutory processing timeframes within 20 working days:

  • 99.7% for residential. 100% September to date.
  • 98.5% for commercial. 92.3% September to date.

We continue to experience high demand for inspections and are working hard to keep wait times as short as possible. You can help by ensuring all work is completed and ready for your inspection. Re-inspections create additional demand on our inspection services and contribute to longer wait times for all customers. 

We use Zyte electronic inspections for some inspection types. Please contact our bookings team at buildinginspections@ccc.govt.nz, who can help determine whether a Zyte inspection may be suitable for your project and ensure all required construction documentation is available to the inspector at the time of the inspection.

  • 98.2% for commercial. 95.9% August to date.
