Alcohol licence public notification

Applications for alcohol licences (new, renewal and variations) need to be notified to the public by publication of a public notice.

Each Community Board in Christchurch also emails out weekly bulletins with information for community members, networks and groups in their area. This includes a list of the current alcohol licensing public notifications for the board area. You can sign up to receive weekly bulletins on your Community Board webpage(external link). 

The register below will also display the public notice start and end date for the making of public objections on an application. A history of recent notifications will also be viewable. This is in keeping with the requirements of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Applicants are also required to display a copy of the public notice on the front of the actual premises so it can be viewed from the outside.

Members of the public can object to an application for an alcohol licence in some cases. Your objection must be made within 25 working days after the date of the public notice being made.

Applications, which include a plan of the premises, may be viewed either online by clicking the links in the table below or in person with an alcohol licensing inspector who is available to answer any questions you may have about the process or the application.  An appointment is required.

Viewing is available during ordinary office hours with the Alcohol Licensing Team, these are Monday to Friday, at the office of the Christchurch District Licensing Committee (DLC), located at the main Civic Offices at 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch.

Please phone the Alcohol Licensing Team to discuss and arrange a suitable appointment time. If you live in a remote area let us know and we will make suitable arrangements with you so you can view an application.

To request a copy of a publically notified application please email alcohollicensing@ccc.govt.nz.  Before we send you a copy we may be required to redact certain information for personal privacy or a commercially sensitive nature.

Public notices will not be removed immediately following the closing date of publication.

You will still be able to view recent notices for a period of time. Late objections are dealt with on a case by case basis by the DLC, after which the notice will be removed.

Any public objections made after the public notified closing date for an application, as identified in the register below, can be received but may not be considered by the Licensing Committee. Acceptance will be subject to whether the committee considers whether a s208 waiver is appropriate.
