Running a street party

Organising a street party is a great way to get to know all the neighbours living in your street.

Pick a place and time

Having your neighbourhood party on the street is a fun way to get people together.

1. Check that you can have a small street party on your street
2. Pick a date and have your neighbours agree to the street closure. 
3. Work with a traffic management plan (TMP) provider and complete a plan before you submit your application. Check the Yellow Pages(external link) for a suitable traffic management provider.
4. Submit the street party application form at least 30 days before the party.

If your street won’t work out consider someone’s yard, a local park, or a community facility(external link).

Plan some activities

Even small events can take a lot of work. Be sure to put together a group of people to help organise the party.

Activity ideas can include:

• A potluck
• Face painting
• Backyard games
• Bouncy castle
• Acoustic band

Remind your neighbours

Everyone should already know about the event, but some may appreciate the reminder so they can move vehicles before the closure.

Your street may be eligible for a street party if it is located on a local road, shown below in blue. This excludes roads with a permanent speed limit over 55km/h.
