Woodham Park comprises three major lawns, bordered by shrubs, and a variety of specimen trees in the English park style.
Access
Main entrance on Woodham Road, alternate entrance on Lionel Street.

Dogs
Dogs are permitted in the park but must be on a leash to protect the heritage gardens.
Dogs are prohibited within one metre of play equipment and the paddling pool.
Facilities
Public toilets, picnic tables, playground, paddling pool and aviary.
Garden park
Woodham Park has a large collection of expansive mature trees include specimens of daimyo oak, trembling poplar, Chinese wingnut and slippery elm. The borders feature excellent examples of laurel and yew hedges, a variety of herbaceous plants interspersed with hydrangeas and camellias, and an outstanding collection of rhododendrons.
The Park also boasts the only aviary operated by the City Council, housing specimens of Java sparrow, ring-necked dove, native and exotic parakeet, quail and various finches.
Play and splash
There is a children’s playground sheltered by mature trees. The playground features a multi-play structure, see saws and swings. There is also extensive lawns perfect for running around.

History
Woodham Park was originally the site of a large homestead boasting 10 bedrooms. Built by stamp clerk John Gwalter Palairet, the house changed hands over the years until it was demolished in 1941. The property had been repeatedly vandalised since the surrounding greenspace had become Woodham Park. Christchurch City Libraries has more information.(external link)
Woodham Park is a lovely spot for an outdoor wedding or large gathering.
Three spots in the park can be booked:
- Rhododendron Dell Lawn - holds 150 people.
- Main Lawn, including the Summer House, holds 150 people.
- Playground Lawn - holds 150 people.
