Burwood wastewater upgrade

We’re replacing wastewater pipes along several streets in Burwood. The work will be completed by December 2026.

Additional pipe damage discovered during works

While carrying out wastewater pipe repairs at the Burwood Road and Mairehau Road intersection, we discovered an additional section of damaged pipe that also requires repair.

This damage was not visible before excavation began and was identified as part of the investigation and repair work already underway. As a result, work in this area will need to continue longer than originally planned while the additional repairs are completed.

We know this will be frustrating for people who regularly travel through the area and appreciate your patience while this work is carried out.

Updated schedule

The map below shows the updated work programme including the additional repair work.

Blue: Work that has now been completed.

Red: Additional repair work required after the damaged pipe was discovered during construction. This work is planned from 7 September to early November. Mairehau Road will reopen once this section is complete.

Green: Work that was already part of the original project scope but cannot be completed at the same time as the Mairehau Road repairs. This work will start in early November and is expected to be finished in early December 2026.

The additional repairs will ensure the wastewater network continues to operate reliably and help reduce the risk of future failures.
