We’re upgrading water supply pipes on Scarborough Road.
The upgrade will help us provide safe, reliable drinking water services for the community and improve the resilience of the water supply network.
Stage one – investigation work
Before construction begins, we need to carry out investigation work (potholing) so we can plan the safest and most efficient approach for the pipe replacement.
Our contractor, Utilities Infrastructure NZ, will begin potholing investigations on Monday 3 August 2026. This work is expected to take around one week to complete.
The investigations will help us confirm ground conditions and identify the location of underground services before the main construction work starts.
Traffic management – temporary road closures required
We’re working hard to keep traffic impacts to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as possible. Traffic management will be clearly signposted.
- To safely carry out this work, Scarborough Road between Seaspray Lane and 39 Taylors Mistake Road (shown on the map below) will be closed to vehicles between 9.30am and 3pm, from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August 2026.
- To maintain vehicle access, the road will reopen every hour, on the hour, for 10 minutes during these work hours.
- Our team will be able to escort cyclists through the site. Pedestrians are encouraged to use the Flowers Track where possible.

Stage two – construction
Once the investigation work is complete, we’ll use the information we gather to finalise plans for the next stage of the project.
We expect the main construction phase to take a couple of months to complete. While dates have not yet been confirmed, we’ll avoid carrying out this work during the busy summer period.(external link)
