There are plenty of classroom-ready teacher resources ready for you to use within the classroom surrounding active travel and road safety practices.
In-class Council-run workshops
We offer free 30 to 60-minute in-class workshops for schools:
- Exploring active travel – all year groups
Junior: This foundation workshop introduces what active travel is, why it’s good for you, and the importance of road safety, including ‘Stop, Look and Listen’ when crossing the road.
Senior: Builds on the junior workshop by exploring different types of road users and identifying safety features and hazards around school gates. - Safer speeds – Years 5 to 8
A hands-on PE and science activity investigating how speed affects stopping distances. Students work in groups to measure stopping points at different speeds. - How to catch a Metro bus – Years 5 to 8
This in-class workshop covers how to safely catch a bus, use a Metrocard, and the benefits of bus travel. Includes practical activities. - In the truck driver’s seat – Years 7 to 10
Helps students understand truck blind spots and how to stay visible and safe as cyclists or pedestrians around heavy vehicles. - Making a difference and creating change – Leadership groups
A collaborative workshop where students design a project to raise awareness about a transport issue. They develop a presentation, define roles, set timelines, and identify their target audience - typically focused on a transport concern the school has raised raised to the Council.
