Harewood Road - watermain renewal

Update

What

We are installing new water main and sub-main pipes on Harewood Road, to keep water flowing to you and your whānau. This work includes new water connections, which will require a temporary water shut off.

Why

These pipes have reached the end of their service life and are being replaced. This work is part of the Council’s Northwest Programme. Please go to www.ccc.govt.nz/northwest for more information.

Where

110 to 410 Harewood Road, Bishopdale.

When

2 June 2026 to late September 2026. Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 5pm (weather/site condition dependent).
There will be some night works. We will notify residents and businesses in advance of all night works.

Contact

The contractor is Schick Civil Construction. Contact Jeremy Rintoul, (Contract Representative) on 021 223 3926 / 0800 4 SCHICK or email jeremy.rintoul@schick.co.nz, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Details

We are replacing ageing watermain and sub main pipes between 110 and 410 Harewood Road. The works will occur in stages (shown in the map below), although our contractor may work on more than one stage at a time.

Please let the contractor know if you have any specific requirements for property access, e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or any other planned work on your property.

Traffic impacts

  • Two way traffic will be maintained at all times. A rolling lane closure will be in place and move as the work progresses.
  • Traffic management will change as we progress through the stages. Our contractor will notify properties in advance as they move along the route. Additional letter drops will be distributed to keep residents and businesses updated.
  • The placement of the pipes varies, so at times we will be working on the south side of the median island (westbound) and others we will be working on the north side (eastbound).
  • Please adhere to signage and allow extra time to avoid delays.

Water shut-offs

We will need to shut the water off during night works when we connect the new pipes to existing pipes. We will notify you in advance if your property is impacted by the shut off.

Impacts of the works

  • The nature of the works means they will generate noise, dust and vibrations.
  • We aim to complete most of the work during the day, limiting the amount of night work.
  • The rolling lane closure allows the team to have a safer working environment, and they will be able to complete the work faster with this method.
  • Access to residences and businesses may be briefly impacted. The contractor will make access available as soon as possible. Please advise them using the contact details above if you have any specific property access requirements.
  • Pedestrian detours will be in place, please adhere to signage.

Updates

We will update residents and businesses before starting each stage. QR codes will be distributed around the site. Scan one to receive updates on progress as the work moves down Harewood Road.

This project is part of the Northwest programme of water and roading upgrades. You can find out more about the programme and sign up for email updates at www.ccc.govt.nz/northwest(external link)

If everything goes according to plan, work is expected to be finished on Harewood Road by the end of September 2026.
