Our reticulated wastewater system handles domestic sewage from kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and toilets. It also receives a smaller amount of liquid discharge from commercial and industrial premises, such as discharge from restaurants, takeaway outlets, food processors, metal finishers, service stations and chemical manufacturers.
Our wastewater system includes eight treatment plants, connected to our homes and businesses by pipes, manholes and pumping stations.
Trade waste is the commercial and industrial liquid waste that is disposed of through the Christchurch City Council sewerage system.
